STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT YOUR MARINE SURVEYOR


1. If you are in the market for a used boat, or looking for insurance coverage, you should know that if the vessel is over two years old, or has never had a marine survey, you may be required to provide your finance and/or insurance company with a current marine survey.
2. Your insurance company or underwriter can not require you to use a certain surveyor or organization.  This would be illegal restriction of trade and interference with business.  The surveyor should work for you and have your interest in mind.
3. Always call or look up the organization the surveyor claims to be a member of and verify his status.
